• Presentation is 7 minutes, followed by another 7 minutes of questions.
    • Use the 7 minutes!
  • Presentation techniques:
    • Eye contact

      • Look everyone into the eyes at least once during your talk.
    • Posture

      • Make sure you take a position where everyone can see you, and where everyone can still see the screen. It’s better to take a central place than somewhere in a corner. Make sure the screen remains visible for everybody.

      • Aim your feet towards the audience.

      • Weather man psoture:

        Untitled

        Untitled

    • Gestures and facial expressions

    • Voice

      • Volume, articulation, tempo, intonation
    • Language

      • Avoid fillers: ehh, actually, like, let’s see, etc. It’s better to leave a short pause.
      • Limit jargon (specialised language) to a minimum.
      • Make sure to practise your presentation out loud several times in advance (in front of the mirror, with a test audience, or by recording)
  • Q&A:
    • Invite audience → Thank you very much. If there are any questions, I will be happy to take them.
    • Rephrase question → Make sure everyone can hear the correct question well.
    • Answer question → Answer at the entire audience, not just the questioner.
    • Check if answer is clear → Make sure you do not end every answer the same way (‘Does that answer your question?)’. If someone lets you know that the question has been answered to their satisfaction non-verbally (nodding/humming), it is not always needed to explicitly check if the answer is clear.
    • Explicitly end the question round → Since there are no more questions, this is the end of the question round. If you still have any questions you can always contact me by e-mail. I hope that you will take with you the relevance of diversity and how big of an issue it supposes for RLHF. Finally, I would like to thank you for your time and attention, and I wish you a very nice day. // Maybe we can discuss it after this session. But you can also get in touch with me by e-mail…
    • Example questions:
      • Next steps.
      • Problems you may have encountered.
      • What did you enjoy the most?
      • Is random actually better than active?
      • Why the chosen percentages?
      • Why the chosen environments?
      • How did you ensured the results were reliable?
  • End Q&A and thank the audience for feedback
